JOB DESCRIPTION
The Applications Systems Architect is responsible for acquiring knowledge of multiple existing application systems implemented in multiple platforms and technologies. Focus is on understanding and documenting the functions, operations, and implementations of the multiple, existing applications with the objective being to help determine feasible migration strategies for migrating functionality off the existing applications to a new, service-oriented architecture.
Responsibilities include working with business analysts, project managers, production support and development staff, and other architects to discover and document the functions and high-level implementation specifics of the existing applications. A key responsibility will be to understand the next generation SOA architecture in order to assist in developing migration strategies. The architect may determine that modifications are required to existing systems in order to facilitate migration strategies; the architect will be responsible for producing architecture and/or design documents that specify the needed changes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Our ideal candidate should have 5 years of experience designing, developing and implementing applications using broad range of technologies, including Microsoft classic ASP/SQLServer, Java and J2EE, messaging middleware, and CORBA. Development experience with SOA would be helpful. Candidate must have 1 year of experience as an application architect. Must be able to create and analyze UML diagrams which document software systems. Candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with peers on technical solutions. Bachelor's degree in MIS, computer science or equivalent level of experience.
Required Technical Experience: Web servers and web proxies; messaging middleware such as Websphere MQ; relational databases; Java, J2EE and XML; working knowledge of Microsoft classic ASP and SQL Server. Proficiency with UML and Visio.
Desired Technical Experience: Knowledge of CORBA.
